What details are required on a rent receipt for HRA?

A useful HRA rent receipt usually includes receipt number, date, tenant name, landlord name, rental address, rent amount, rent period, payment mode, landlord PAN where applicable, and landlord signature.

Is landlord PAN required for HRA rent receipts?

Landlord PAN is commonly requested when annual rent is above Rs 1,00,000. If the landlord does not have a PAN, many employers ask for a declaration with landlord name and address.

Is revenue stamp required on a rent receipt?

For cash rent payments above Rs 5,000, a revenue stamp on the signed receipt is commonly expected. UPI, bank transfer, and cheque payments usually rely on their payment reference instead.
